Ten players is enough to start a ladder. Below that we would rather tell you so than launch something that dies in three weeks.
Where you would play
Dubai has almost no municipal tennis network in the sense London or Hong Kong would recognize. Courts sit inside communities, academies, hotels and clubs, and the booking layer is mostly commercial.
Community and academy courts
Each community, academy and hotel venue sets its own hourly rate. Check the venue's own listing for the current price before you agree a match there.
Booking
Playtomic is the platform most Dubai venues use, and it is the one to install before you organize anything. Individual academies also take direct bookings.
One thing to know before you plan a ladder here. Padel has overtaken tennis in sheer court volume across Dubai, and several tennis venues have converted capacity. Check that a venue still has the tennis courts a listing claims before you build a season around it.
When you can play
Dubai is a two-season tennis city and the split is severe.
October to April is the season
Daytime play is comfortable, evenings are excellent, and this is when a ladder should run.
June to August is survivable only after dark
Daytime temperatures reach the forties. Play happens from roughly 6pm to 10pm under floodlights, when it drops into the low thirties. A handful of venues have indoor or air-conditioned courts, and in summer they stop being a luxury.
Recommended season length: ten weeks, starting in October or February
Do not run a full season across July and August. Either pause it or expect the play window to be missed constantly.
How a ladder works here
The shared mechanics are the same in every city. What changes here is the format, and it changes because of the court slot.
Dubai venues sell tennis by the hour, and most ladder matches will be played in a single evening slot.
- One hour booked. An eight-game pro set, or short sets to four with a tiebreak at 3-3.
- Ninety minutes or two hours. Best of three sets with a match tiebreak to ten in the third. Worth it in the cooler months.
In summer, default to the one-hour format regardless of what the ladder is set to. A three-set match at 8pm in July is not a competitive test, it is an endurance test.
The mechanics
These are the defaults. An organizer can change most of them when the ladder is set up.

Thirty days to play is more than Dubai needs. Court supply is commercial and generally available, so the constraint is the players' schedules, not the booking system, and an organizer can shorten the window.

Levels and where you start
Dubai has no single amateur rating in common use. UTR exists among competitive juniors and some adults. Most social players describe their level in words, and the expat population arrives carrying NTRP, LTA ratings and national rankings from a dozen different systems.
Deuce accepts whatever you have: NTRP, UTR, WTN, LTA rating, ITN, a national federation ranking, or a club level. All of them are optional. If you have none, describe your game and the system places you.
Two rules to know before you sign up:
- Low confidence places you high, not low. When we are unsure, you start at the top of the plausible range, never the middle and never the bottom. An underplaced player gets easy matches, which is the fastest way to ruin a ladder for everyone else.
- Your first challenge fixes it. One unrestricted challenge anywhere inside your band, played once, corrects a bad placement in a single match.

How competitive tennis is organized in Dubai
Dubai has a lot of tennis and very little standing competition.
Academies
dominate the organized layer. They produce coached players, junior programs and social sessions. They do not produce a season-long ranking you belong to.
Clubs and hotels
run internal events for members and guests. Good facilities, closed access.
Expat community groups
carry the rest, and in Dubai they are unusually strong. Facebook groups and standing social sessions are how most adults find partners here. They are also the incumbent, and they are free.
What is missing
is a standing ranking any player in the city can join, where you choose who to play, book the court yourself, and the result moves your position. If you want that in Dubai today, someone is maintaining it by hand.

Can you play tennis in Dubai in summer?
After dark, yes. Daytime play from June to August is not realistic. Evening floodlit sessions from around 6pm to 10pm are when the city plays, and a few venues have indoor or air-conditioned courts.
When should a ladder season run?
October to April. Ten weeks starting in October is the natural window.
How is a ladder different from a league?
A league assigns you a schedule and opponents. A ladder gives you a rung, you challenge someone above you, and confirmed results earn Deuce Points that order the standings.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. Deuce Ladder is free for players right now. Court fees are separate and you pay them to the venue.

Start a ladder in Dubai
For a club pro, a volunteer captain, a company team, or one person whose group chat has outgrown itself.
The application is ten questions and takes about five minutes. We review it and get in touch only if something needs clarifying. Once it is approved, the ladder is live and players can join and challenge straight away.
There is no self-serve wizard: every application is reviewed before the ladder opens.
You need ten players you can name. Twelve or more is where a ladder becomes self-sustaining, because that is the point at which the same two people stop playing each other every week. Under ten, apply anyway: we will tell you so rather than launch something thin.
If you already run a ladder in a spreadsheet, there is no import: invite your players once the ladder is approved, and the unrestricted first challenge sorts the order in a round.
