Tennis ladders in Phuket

The Phuket singles ladder on Deuce is open, and it's free to join. You pick who you play, and the two of you pick the court. On Phuket that usually means a private court at a hotel or an academy, not a park. SAii Laguna Phuket rents its courts to non-guests from 400 baht an hour plus service and tax. Thanyapura in Thalang has four covered courts, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the rainy months.

Ten players is enough to start a ladder. Below that we would rather tell you so than launch something that dies in three weeks.

Where you would play

Phuket's courts are spread across the island, and almost all are private. The table runs from Mai Khao in the far north to Karon on the southwest coast, with a cluster on the east side between Phuket Town and Ko Kaeo. Before you suggest a venue to an opponent, check who can book it.

SAii's rates come from its September to December 2026 price list. They're before its 10 percent service charge and 7 percent tax, and its indoor court costs 600 baht at any hour. "Not listed" and "Not stated" mean the operator's own page doesn't say, so we don't guess. We checked every row against the operator's own page on October 7, 2026.

Academies and sports resorts

Thanyapura, a sports and health resort in Thalang, has six courts: four covered and two outdoor, all on a Plexicushion surface. They're open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The resort says anyone can book its facilities for personal use, though it doesn't publish a court rate. A membership with access to all its facilities costs 12,150 baht for three months or 40,500 baht for a year. Courts close on October 31 and November 1 and again on November 7 and 8, 2026.

The Oceanic Sportel, a sports hotel in Ko Kaeo about 10 minutes from the Old Town, runs a tennis club with four indoor courts, two outdoor courts and two air-conditioned mini courts. The club is home to the Paradorn International Tennis Academy. Paradorn Srichaphan, the former world No. 9, founded it, and it runs adult clinics and group classes. The hotel doesn't publish a court rate.

The school courts in Ko Kaeo

The BISP Tennis Academy sits on the British International School, Phuket campus on Thepkrasattri Road. It has six floodlit hard courts, three of them indoors, and the school added an awning over the outdoor courts for the rainy season in 2024 to 2025. It runs a tennis membership program and says its courts serve students and community members alike. It doesn't publish court rates, so ask the academy.

Hotel and resort courts

Only one hotel in this guide, SAii Laguna Phuket in the Laguna Phuket resort area on Bang Tao Bay, publishes what an outside player pays: 400 baht an hour before 6 p.m. and 600 baht after 6 p.m. or on its indoor court, plus service and tax. Hotel guests play free. The courts are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket, Anantara Mai Khao, Le Méridien and the Pullman at Karon all list tennis courts, but none of their pages says whether a non-guest can book one. Ask the front desk before you agree a match there. Le Méridien is the one with grass: two of its four courts are stro-grass.

The city park and the marina

The City of Phuket lists tennis courts among the sports facilities at Saphan Hin, its seaside park in Phuket Town, alongside a gymnasium, a pool and football and basketball grounds. The city page gives no court count, hours or fee. Royal Phuket Marina, in Ko Kaeo, lists a Royal Tennis Club and a tennis court among its tenants, with no further detail.

Heading to the capital? Bangkok's courts and its ladder are on the Bangkok page.

When you can play

Phuket is hot all year. What changes from month to month is the rain. These are the Thai Meteorological Department's 1991 to 2020 normals for its Phuket station, in Phuket Town.

Months Normal high Normal low Rain in a month Rainy days a month What it means for a match
December to March 90 to 94°F (32-34°C) 77 to 79°F (25-26°C) 1 to 3 inches (24-82 mm) 3 to 10 The dry season. Early morning or evening
April 94°F (34°C) 79°F (26°C) 5.3 inches (135 mm) 12 Still hot, and the rain starts
May to October 89 to 92°F (32-33°C) 77 to 79°F (25-26°C) 9 to 14 inches (237-350 mm) 19 to 23 Monsoon months. Have a covered court in mind
November 90°F (32°C) 77°F (25°C) 7 inches (178 mm) 16 The rain eases

February is the driest month, with about three rainy days. September is the wettest, with 350 mm (13.8 inches), and October has the most rainy days, about 23. The year adds up to about 2,270 mm (89 inches), and the airport station in the north of the island records more, about 2,660 mm. Put simply, December to March is the dry stretch.

The wet half of the year is the southwest monsoon. The department's outlook for July to September 2026 names the monsoon as the source of the rain, and it singles out the west coast of southern Thailand, which is Phuket's coast, as one of the places that gets more when the monsoon strengthens.

When it rains, take the match under a roof. Thanyapura, BISP and the Oceanic Sportel have covered or indoor courts, and SAii rents an indoor one. If none of those suits you both, the 30-day play window leaves time to pick another date.

How a ladder works here

The rules are the same in every city. On Phuket, plan for the drive and the weather, and book more than an hour.

Start with the place. The courts in this guide are scattered from Mai Khao to Karon, and Laguna Phuket alone is a 25-minute drive from the airport, so when you accept a challenge, settle the venue before the time. The challenger books the court unless you agree otherwise.

Then book enough time. The Phuket ladder records best of three tiebreak sets, the platform default, and our rules say plainly that a one-hour slot is not best of three. Where you pay by the hour, as at SAii, book two.

Normal highs sit between 89°F and 94°F in every month, so plan on mornings, or evenings on a lit court. From May to October, have a covered court in mind as the fallback.

The mechanics

These are the defaults. An organizer can change the challenge range, both windows and the rematch cooldown. The first challenge, the absence rule and the inactivity schedule are fixed.

Rule Default
Challenge range Five rungs up. Rung 6 may challenge rung 1
Response window 5 days
Play window 30 days from acceptance
First challenge One unrestricted challenge inside your own level band. Always on
Rematch cooldown 14 days. Playing someone else does not shorten it
Absence Up to 21 days. You keep your rung and cannot be challenged
Inactivity Points decay every 30 days without a played match. Your rung is released at 180 days and you are withdrawn at 365

Absence is the rule that matters on an island where people come and go. Away for up to three weeks? Mark yourself absent. You keep your rung, and nobody can challenge you. Away longer, say for the low season, and you can ask your organizer for an extended absence of up to six months, with a reason in writing. The whole ruleset is on the rules page, scoring explains how a result gets confirmed, and the glossary covers rungs and level bands.

Levels and where you start

Thailand has no amateur rating that everyone uses. The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand ranks juniors and national players, and Phuket's adult players arrive with whatever their home country uses. The island's academies lean on two systems. Thanyapura sorts its group sessions by NTRP level and publishes level guides for NTRP and UTR, and BISP hosts UTR tournaments.

Deuce takes NTRP, UTR, WTN, an LTA rating or a club level, and you don't need any of them. No rating? Describe your game and we place you. Two rules decide where you start.

  1. When in doubt, you start higher. If you could be a 3.5 or a 4.0, you start as a 4.0. A player placed too low beats people they shouldn't be playing, and that skews the rungs below.
  2. One match sorts it out. Your first challenge can go to anyone in your level band, so a placement that's off gets fixed the first time you play.

The rating conversion table shows how NTRP, UTR and WTN line up. What each NTRP level looks like in a match is on the NTRP rating chart.

How competitive tennis is organized in Phuket

Phuket's organized tennis runs through its academies and hotels, plus a junior circuit run by the national federation. Each option below is described from its own page, as of October 7, 2026.

Thanyapura

runs coached match play. On Sundays its coaches organize singles and doubles in two NTRP bands, 2.5 to 3.0 from 8:30 a.m. and 3.5 to 5.0 from 10 a.m., and a Friday morning session takes 2.5 to 5.0. A match play session costs 300 baht for members and 1,200 baht for everyone else.

SAii Laguna Phuket

holds a tennis social night on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 200 baht a person.

The BISP Tennis Academy

runs internal tournaments and UTR tournaments, and its adult players play matches against visiting clubs.

The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand

brings its junior circuit to Phuket several times a year. Its 2026 calendar has the Thanyapura Youth Open on October 31 and November 1 and a regional PTT series event at Thanyapura on November 7 and 8, the same dates Thanyapura lists as court closures. Earlier events in 2026 used the Oceanic Sportel and the Smile tennis courts. All of them are for juniors.

None of these is a standing singles ladder. Each is a session you sign up for or an event with a date. A Deuce ladder runs all year: you challenge when you're ready, your opponent has 5 days to answer, and an accepted match has 30 days to get played. The deadlines push a challenge along, but they don't guarantee that both of you show up.

A Deuce ladder isn't the answer for everyone. If you want a coach to set up your matches, Thanyapura's match play does that. For a relaxed evening hit with whoever turns up, try SAii's social night. A junior chasing a national ranking needs the LTAT circuit.

Questions

Is there a tennis ladder in Phuket?

Yes. Deuce runs the Phuket singles ladder, open all year and free to join. We found no other standing ladder with its own page on the island. Thanyapura runs coached match play by NTRP level, SAii Laguna Phuket has a social night twice a week, and the national federation brings junior events.

How much does a tennis court cost in Phuket?

Only one venue in this guide publishes an hourly rate for outside players. SAii Laguna Phuket charges 400 baht an hour before 6 p.m. and 600 baht after, plus 10 percent service and 7 percent tax. Thanyapura sells memberships from 12,150 baht for three months, and its coached match play costs non-members 1,200 baht a session.

Are there public tennis courts in Phuket?

The City of Phuket lists tennis courts at the Saphan Hin sports center, in its seaside park in Phuket Town, but publishes no court count, hours or fee. Every other court in this guide belongs to an academy, a school, a hotel or a club, so book with the operator.

Can I book a hotel tennis court if I'm not a guest?

At SAii Laguna Phuket, yes. It's the one hotel in this guide that publishes a rate for outside players. Thanyapura, a sports resort, says anyone can book its facilities. Dusit Thani Laguna, Anantara Mai Khao, Le Méridien and the Pullman at Karon list courts but don't say whether outsiders can book them, so check with the hotel.

Where can I play tennis indoors or under cover in Phuket?

Thanyapura in Thalang has four covered courts, open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. In Ko Kaeo, the Oceanic Sportel has four indoor courts, and the BISP Tennis Academy has three, plus an awning over its outdoor ones. SAii Laguna Phuket rents its one indoor court for 600 baht an hour.

Are there clay tennis courts in Phuket?

None of the venues in this guide lists a clay court. Thanyapura's courts are Plexicushion, BISP's are hard, and the Oceanic Sportel's indoor courts are hard. The closest to a soft surface is Le Méridien, where two of the four courts are stro-grass. If you need clay, call ahead.

Can you play tennis in Phuket during the monsoon?

Yes, with a covered court in reserve. From May to October Phuket normally gets 9 to 14 inches of rain a month on 19 to 23 rainy days. Thanyapura, the Oceanic Sportel and BISP have indoor or covered courts, and the 30-day play window gives room to move a match.

Where can I take tennis lessons in Phuket?

Thanyapura, the Oceanic Sportel's Paradorn academy and the BISP Tennis Academy all coach adults. At the Oceanic Sportel a 60-minute private lesson starts at 1,600 baht. SAii Laguna Phuket also teaches, from 2,000 baht an hour plus service and tax. Deuce doesn't offer lessons.

How is a ladder different from a league?

A league sets your schedule and your opponents. A ladder gives you a rung, and you choose who to challenge and when to play, inside a response window and a play window. That helps if your weeks change with travel or the weather. How it works explains it.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing. Deuce Ladder is free for players right now. The court is a separate bill, and the venue sets it: SAii, for one, charges non-guests by the hour. Deuce doesn't sell court time or take bookings. Browse open ladders on Discover, or read what players get.

How do I start a ladder in Phuket?

Apply as an organizer. You need ten players you can name: a Thanyapura match play group, BISP parents, a hotel's regulars or a condo building. Deuce reviews the short application before the ladder opens. The steps are below and on the organizers page.

Start a ladder in Phuket

The city ladder is for singles players anywhere on the island. A smaller ladder works for a group that already shares courts: an academy's adult members, a school's parents, a resort's long-stay guests or a housing estate with its own court.

The application is ten questions and a free-text box, about five minutes. Deuce reads every one and writes back only if something needs clarifying. Once it's approved, the ladder is live and players can join and challenge the same day.

You need ten players you can name. Twelve or more is better, because a small group keeps drawing the same opponents. With fewer than ten, apply anyway, and we'll tell you if the group is too thin to work.

Running a ladder in a spreadsheet or a chat group now? Nothing imports. Invite your players after approval and let each player's unrestricted first challenge sort out the order.
