Tennis ladders in Koh Samui

The Koh Samui singles ladder is open on Deuce Ladder, and it's free to join. You pick who you play, and the two of you book the court. Most courts on the island belong to resorts, and some keep theirs for guests. Two clubs publish hourly rates: Koh Samui Tennis Club in Bo Phut charges 400 to 880 baht, and Padel Samui in Plai Laem 600 to 800 baht. The rain peaks in November.

Ten players is enough to start a ladder. Below that we would rather tell you so than launch something that dies in three weeks.

Where you would play

Koh Samui is about 25 kilometers long and 21 wide (16 by 13 miles), so one ladder can cover the whole island. The courts are not spread evenly, though. Eight of the ten below are in Bo Phut or Mae Nam, on the north coast. The Sheraton is on Chaweng Noi Beach and Four Seasons is in Ang Thong. We found no operator page for a court in Lamai or the south.

"Not stated" means the operator's own page doesn't say. We checked every row against the club's or resort's own page on October 7, 2026, and listed only places whose operator says it has a tennis court. Private villas that come with a court are left out: the court goes with the villa.

In short: two clubs rent courts by the hour to anyone who books. Two resorts publish an hourly rate. The other resort courts are for guests, or the resort doesn't say.

Clubs

Koh Samui Tennis Club is a family-owned club in Bo Phut with two full-size hard courts, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. The rate depends on the hour: 600 baht in the morning, 400 baht from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 600 baht in the afternoon and 880 baht from 6 p.m. Three or four players add 200 baht an hour.

There's no online booking. You pay in full at the club or by bank transfer, and the booking isn't confirmed until you do. The money isn't refunded. You can move a booking up to 48 hours ahead, though, or when severe rain or strong wind makes play unsafe.

Padel Samui, in Plai Laem, is a padel club with one tennis court on a Laykold surface, lit by LED floodlights for evening play. It's open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Court time costs 600 baht an hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 800 baht in the early morning and from 4 p.m. You book online, in the club's app or through the club.

Samui Sports Club, which gives its address as Bophut Maenam, says on its own page that it has two floodlit tennis courts. It also offers lessons and knockers, and it strings rackets. It publishes no court rate, so call the club on +66 84 296 2353 before you plan a match there.

Resort courts

Garrya Tongsai Bay lists its floodlit court at 400 baht net an hour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 600 baht from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The same page also calls the court complimentary and sends you to Guest Relations to book. Sheraton Samui Resort, on Chaweng Noi Beach, charges 500 baht an hour plus 10% service and 7% tax, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., booked at least a day ahead. Neither page says whether a non-guest may book.

W Koh Samui leaves no doubt. Its court is for resort guests only, free, for up to two hours a session. Anantara Bophut says its court is free for guests staying at the resort. Four Seasons has two turf courts, and The Ritz-Carlton and Santiburi list tennis among their facilities, without saying who else may play.

Public courts

As far as the sources go, Koh Samui has no public, city-run tennis court. The Koh Samui City Municipality's pages we checked list none, and no operator page we opened describes one.

When you can play

You can play all year. The heavy rain comes late, in October, November and December. The table uses the Thai Meteorological Department's 1991 to 2020 normals for its Ko Samui station.

Months Normal high Rain a month Days with rain What it means for a match
January to April 29.0 to 31.8°C (84 to 89°F) 64 to 127 mm 6 to 11 The driest stretch. February is the driest month
May to September 31.9 to 32.9°C (89 to 91°F) 102 to 134 mm 13 to 15 The hottest months. Play early or late
October to December 29.3 to 30.6°C (85 to 87°F) 263 to 445 mm 14 to 19 The wet season. Book with a backup day

November is the wettest month, with about 445 mm (17.5 inches) of rain and 19 rainy days. October, November and December together bring about half the year's rain. February is the driest, at 64 mm on about six days. May is the hottest month, with a normal high of 32.9°C (91°F), and it has the most thunderstorm days, about 12. Humidity runs from 78 to 86 percent in every month.

Picking a month to get a group started? February and March average about six rainy days each.

How a ladder works here

Nothing in the rules changes on an island. What changes is the court. You rent it by the hour, and the price changes with the time of day.

The Koh Samui ladder records best of three tiebreak sets, the platform default, and that rarely fits in an hour. Book two. At Koh Samui Tennis Club the cheapest slot is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the middle of the day: two hours cost 800 baht. Two evening hours there cost 1,760 baht. At Padel Samui, two hours run 1,200 to 1,600 baht, and the lit court stays open until 10 p.m.

From October to December, agree a second date when you accept a challenge. Koh Samui Tennis Club lets you move a booking when severe rain makes play unsafe, and the 30-day play window leaves room for a washed-out match. Accept a challenge in late October and its window runs through November, the wettest month. The challenger books the court unless you agree otherwise, so settle who pays when you accept.

The mechanics

If you've played on a ladder before, this table is all you need. These are the defaults: an organizer can change the challenge range, both windows and the rematch cooldown, but not the first challenge, the absence rule or the inactivity schedule.

Rule Default
Challenge range Five rungs up. Rung 6 may challenge rung 1
Response window 5 days
Play window 30 days from acceptance
First challenge One unrestricted challenge inside your own level band. Always on
Rematch cooldown 14 days. Playing someone else does not shorten it
Absence Up to 21 days. You keep your rung and cannot be challenged
Inactivity Points decay every 30 days without a played match. Your rung is released at 180 days and you are withdrawn at 365

Two rules matter more on an island where people come and go. A standard absence covers up to 21 days, and you can take as many as you need: you keep your rung and nobody can challenge you. For a longer stay away, an extended absence runs up to six months with your organizer's approval, and it also pauses the expiry of your points. Points decay after 30 days without a played match, so a long trip home costs you something unless you mark it.

The whole ruleset is on the rules page, and scoring covers how a result gets confirmed. Not sure what a rung or a level band is? See the glossary.

Levels and where you start

The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand ranks juniors from under 8 to under 18, and it keeps men's singles and doubles lists. It publishes no rating for club players. So on Koh Samui, people bring whatever they used at home: NTRP, UTR, WTN, an LTA rating or a club level.

Deuce works with any of those, and you don't need one. No rating? Tell us how you play and we'll place you. Two rules decide where you land.

  1. When in doubt, we place you higher. If you could be a 3.5 or a 4.0, you start as a 4.0. A player who starts too low beats people they shouldn't be playing, and that skews the rungs below.
  2. One match settles it. Your first challenge can go to anyone in your level band, so a placement that's wrong gets corrected the first time you play.

To see how the systems line up, use the rating conversion table. What each NTRP level looks like in a match is on the NTRP rating chart.

How competitive tennis is organized on Koh Samui

Koh Samui has no tennis league or ladder that we could find. Organized play runs through the clubs and the coaches. Each is described below from its own page, as of October 7, 2026.

Koh Samui Tennis Club

says it hosts regular tournaments and community events. Its Thai and English-speaking coaches teach and hit from 1,500 baht an hour for one player and 2,000 baht for two.

Padel Samui

runs a tennis players' group chat where members arrange games with each other. Its weekly events and monthly tournaments are for padel and pickleball. Tennis lessons, private or in a group, are priced on request.

Zen Modern Tennis

, a coaching business, says it has been based on Koh Samui for over twenty years. It gives lessons and runs camps, and it offers a playing partner too. Samui Sports Club also lists lessons and knockers. Garrya Tongsai Bay and the Sheraton both sell time with a hitting partner.

Junior competition happens on the mainland. The national federation's PTT development series held its first southern round of 2026, for boys and girls from 8 to 18, at the provincial sports ground courts in Surat Thani in February.

A Deuce ladder is a standing order of players. It doesn't depend on who happens to be in the group chat that week. You challenge when you're ready, the other player has 5 days to answer, and an accepted match has 30 days to get played. The deadlines keep a challenge moving, but nobody can force a match onto a court.

A ladder won't suit everyone here. If you just want a game this week, Padel Samui's group chat exists for that. For coaching, go to one of the coaches above. And if you're here for one week, a hitting partner at your resort makes more sense than a ladder.

Questions

Is there a tennis ladder on Koh Samui?

Yes. Deuce runs the Koh Samui singles ladder, which is open-ended and free to join. We didn't find another ladder or a league on the island. Koh Samui Tennis Club hosts tournaments and community events, and Padel Samui's tennis group chat is where players arrange casual games.

How much does a tennis court cost on Koh Samui?

Koh Samui Tennis Club charges 400 to 880 baht an hour, by time of day. Two evening hours come to 1,760 baht. Padel Samui charges 600 to 800 baht. Garrya Tongsai Bay lists 400 and 600 baht net, and the Sheraton 500 baht plus service and tax. Those are the rates as of October 7, 2026.

Are there public tennis courts on Koh Samui?

We found none. The municipality's pages list no city-run court, and every court we could source belongs to a club or a resort. Koh Samui Tennis Club and Padel Samui both rent by the hour to anyone, which makes them the nearest thing to a public court.

Can I play on a hotel tennis court if I'm not a guest?

Sometimes. W Koh Samui keeps its court for resort guests, and Anantara Bophut makes its court free for guests. Garrya Tongsai Bay and the Sheraton publish hourly rates but don't say whether non-guests may book, so ask the resort first. Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton and Santiburi don't say either.

Where can I get tennis lessons on Koh Samui?

Koh Samui Tennis Club has Thai and English-speaking coaches from 1,500 baht an hour. Padel Samui gives private and group lessons and quotes on request. Samui Sports Club lists lessons and knockers, and Zen Modern Tennis offers lessons and a playing partner. Garrya Tongsai Bay and the Sheraton sell a hitting partner at 2,500 and 2,000 baht an hour.

When is the rainy season on Koh Samui?

Late in the year. In the Thai Meteorological Department's 1991 to 2020 normals, October to December bring about half the annual rain, and November is the wettest month at about 445 mm. February is the driest. In the wet months, agree a backup date when you accept a challenge.

Can I play tennis at night on Koh Samui?

Yes, at a few courts. Padel Samui's court has LED lights and stays open until 10 p.m. Samui Sports Club lists floodlit courts, and Garrya Tongsai Bay rents its floodlit court until 8 p.m. Koh Samui Tennis Club takes bookings until 9 p.m., at its highest rate of 880 baht an hour.

What if I'm only on the island part of the year?

Mark yourself absent. A standard absence lasts up to 21 days, you can take as many as you need, and nobody can challenge you while you're away. For a longer trip, ask your organizer for an extended absence of up to six months, which also pauses the expiry of your points.

Is there a tennis club on Koh Samui?

Yes. Koh Samui Tennis Club in Bo Phut is family-owned and has two hard courts. It also has coaches and a gym, and it's open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Padel Samui in Plai Laem has one lit tennis court among its padel courts. Samui Sports Club lists two floodlit courts.

How is a ladder different from a league?

A league gives you a fixed schedule and opponents. A ladder gives you a rung, and you choose who to challenge and when to play, inside a response window and a play window. Anyone up to five rungs above you is fair game, including people you've never met. How it works explains it.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing. Deuce Ladder is free for players right now. You still pay for the court, as the answers above explain, and Deuce doesn't sell court time. Browse open ladders on Discover, or see what players get.

How do I start a ladder on Koh Samui?

Apply as an organizer. You need ten players you can name: the regulars at a club, a resort's staff, a group of long-stay residents or a coach's students. The short application is reviewed before the ladder opens. The steps are below and on the organizers page.

Start a ladder in Koh Samui

The island ladder is open-ended. There's no season start to wait for, and it takes singles players from anywhere on Koh Samui. A smaller one works for a group that already shares something: the regulars at Koh Samui Tennis Club, the players in Padel Samui's tennis chat, a coach's adult students or the staff of a resort with its own court.

The application takes about five minutes: ten questions. A person at Deuce reads it and only writes back if something needs clearing up. Once it's approved, the ladder is live and players can join and send challenges the same day.

You need ten players you can name. On an island this size the floor matters more than in a big city. With eight players, you'd keep drawing the same three or four opponents. Twelve or more is better. If you have fewer than ten, apply anyway. We'll say so if the group is too thin to work.
