Tennis ladders in Cebu

The Cebu singles ladder on Deuce Ladder is open, and it's free to join. It covers Metro Cebu: Cebu City, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu on Mactan Island. You pick who you play, and the two of you pick the court. Magnum Sports Complex in Cebu City books its tennis court online at 800 pesos. On Mactan, Shangri-La rents its court for 700 pesos by day. At the Mactan weather station, July and October bring the most rain.

Ten players is enough to start a ladder. Below that we would rather tell you so than launch something that dies in three weeks.

Where you would play

Every tennis court we could confirm in Metro Cebu is private. In Cebu City, a sports complex in Apas takes online bookings by the hour. Over on Mactan Island, three resorts publish tennis. Two post court rates, and the third mentions a clay court among its activities. This page covers Metro Cebu, so a court in Cebu City, Mandaue or Lapu-Lapu counts, though we found no Mandaue venue that publishes a tennis court.

Tennis courts in Metro Cebu with a published operator page (checked October 7, 2026)

Venue Area Courts Surface Hours Who can book Booking Rate
Magnum Sports Complex San Miguel Rd, Apas, Cebu City 1 Artificial turf, grass-style 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily Public, all ages Online, in 1 to 3 hour blocks 800 pesos court rate
Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu, The Clubhouse Punta Engaño Rd, Lapu-Lapu 1 full court Not listed Not stated Not stated by the resort 24 hours ahead, prepaid 1,200 pesos by day, 1,500 at night, for 2 players

Plantation Bay Marigondon, Mactan Not stated Clay Not stated Not stated by the resort Through the resort Not published

"Not stated" means the operator's page doesn't say. Four rows is a thin list for three cities. We only add a court when its operator publishes it, and the other venues we looked at didn't.

Pay and play: Magnum Sports Complex, Cebu City

Magnum is the only court here that anyone can book online. It's on San Miguel Road in Apas. Its one tennis court is artificial turf, which the complex describes as grass-style.

You book on Magnum's site: pick the sport and the date, then a block of one, two or three hours. The court rate is 800 pesos and covers up to six players, with 100 pesos an hour for each extra one. The complex is open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., every day.

The Mactan resorts

On Mactan, the published tennis courts belong to resorts. None of the three says whether a non-guest can book. Call the resort before you accept a challenge there, and agree a fallback court in case the answer is no. Both resorts that publish rates also list a night rate.

Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu runs The Clubhouse, its sports and leisure facility on Punta Engaño Road, with one full tennis court. The rate card prices the court for a maximum of two players: 1,200 pesos by day and 1,500 at night, plus 200 pesos for each extra player. The card doesn't say how long a booking runs. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead and pay in full when you book.

Shangri-La Mactan rents its court for 700 pesos by day and 1,000 at night. The court opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m., and the fee includes racket rental. The resort also offers lessons and a playing partner on request, at 1,000 pesos an hour.

Plantation Bay, in Marigondon, lists tennis on a clay court among its resort activities. It publishes no court rate.

Members' clubs

Cebu Country Club, a private members' club on Gov. Cuenco Avenue founded in 1928, doesn't mention tennis on its own site. It says facilities are limited to the locker rooms and the golf course while the clubhouse is rebuilt. We found no other members' club in Metro Cebu that publishes its tennis courts on its own site.

Practice: Cebu Tennis Hub, Lapu-Lapu

The Cebu Tennis Hub on Sangi Road in Pajo, Lapu-Lapu, describes itself as a machine-assisted tennis and pickleball practice hub. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and you call to reserve. Use it to groove a stroke before a ladder match. It doesn't advertise a match court.

Public courts: what we couldn't confirm

You won't find public city courts in the table. That reflects what we could source, and it doesn't mean none exist. A public court goes on this page when the city that runs it publishes its hours and fees. On October 7, 2026, the Cebu City government site did not respond, and the Mandaue City site had no tennis page.

When you can play

It's warm in Cebu all year. The rain and the time of day decide when you play. These figures are 1991 to 2020 normals from PAGASA, the national weather service, for its station at Mactan International Airport.

Months Normal high Normal low Rain a month Rainy days What it means for a match
February to May 30.0 to 32.8°C (86 to 91°F) 24.0 to 26.0°C (75 to 79°F) 56 to 94 mm 5 to 9 The driest stretch. April and May are hottest
June to October 31.4 to 32.3°C (89 to 90°F) 24.9 to 25.5°C (77 to 78°F) 158 to 211 mm 13 to 15 Wet. Thunderstorms on 13 to 16 days a month
November to January 29.7 to 31.0°C (86 to 88°F) 24.0 to 25.0°C (75 to 77°F) 131 to 172 mm 12 to 14 Cooler, but December is wet

PAGASA describes the country's rainy season as June to November and its dry season as December to May. Mactan doesn't follow that line exactly. December brings 171.9 mm over 14 rainy days, more than August or November. April is the driest month, at 55.6 mm over five days. PAGASA also calls March to May the most uncomfortable months, when heat and humidity both peak.

Then there are typhoons. PAGASA counts an average of 20 tropical cyclones a year in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, and about 8 or 9 cross the country. The peak runs from July through October. If a typhoon is heading for Cebu, the match waits. The 30-day play window leaves room to play it later.

How a ladder works here

That's the where and the when. The rules don't change by city. What changes in Cebu is the court. You rent one, and nearly every published court is at a resort on Mactan or a sports complex in Cebu City.

The Cebu ladder records best of three tiebreak sets, the platform default. That can run past an hour, and the rules say a one-hour slot is not best of three. At Magnum, book a two-hour block. At a resort, ask how long the rate covers before you pay.

Metro Cebu spans the mainland and Mactan Island. Settle the venue when you accept, not on match day. The challenger books the court unless you agree otherwise, and it's worth saying who pays.

From April to September, normal highs at Mactan sit above 31°C (88°F). Magnum and Shangri-La open at 6 a.m., and Magnum stays open until 1 a.m., so early and late slots are there to book. From June to October, the station logs thunderstorms on 13 to 16 days a month, so some matches will move.

The mechanics

If you already know how ladders work, this table is all you need. These are defaults. An organizer can change the challenge range, both windows and the rematch cooldown. The first challenge, absence and inactivity rules are fixed.

Rule Default
Challenge range Five rungs up. Rung 6 may challenge rung 1
Response window 5 days
Play window 30 days from acceptance
First challenge One unrestricted challenge inside your own level band. Always on
Rematch cooldown 14 days. Playing someone else does not shorten it
Absence Up to 21 days. You keep your rung and cannot be challenged
Inactivity Points decay every 30 days without a played match. Your rung is released at 180 days and you are withdrawn at 365

If a typhoon or a trip takes you off court, mark yourself absent. You keep your rung for up to 21 days, and nobody can challenge you until you're back. Everything else is in the full rules. Scoring covers how both players confirm a result, and the glossary defines rung, level band and the rest.

Levels and where you start

The national federation is the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA), based at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. The Asian Tennis Federation lists it as the Philippines' member. Its own site didn't load when we checked, so this page says nothing about its rankings.

Deuce doesn't need a federation ranking. Bring NTRP, UTR, WTN, ITN, a national ranking or a club level, or none at all. No rating? Tell us how you play and we'll place you. Two rules decide where you land.

  1. Unsure? You start higher. Somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4.0 means you go in as a 4.0. Placing a player too low hands them easy wins and pushes everyone under them down.
  2. Your first match corrects it. The first challenge you send can reach anyone in your level band, so one result fixes a bad placement.

To see how the systems line up, use the rating conversion table. What each NTRP level looks like in a match is on the NTRP rating chart.

How competitive tennis is organized in Cebu

This section is short, because there wasn't much to find. It covers what each organizer's own page showed on October 7, 2026.

The one tournament we could confirm on an official calendar was international. The International Tennis Federation ran an MT200 tournament in Cebu City from August 27 to September 2, 2026, on outdoor clay. It belongs to the World Tennis Masters Tour, so the draws start at age 30. The ITF page doesn't name the venue.

Day to day, what's on offer is coaching and practice. Shangri-La Mactan sells lessons and a playing partner by the hour. The Cebu Tennis Hub in Lapu-Lapu is set up for solo practice with ball machines. Neither keeps standings.

We looked for a Cebu tennis ladder or an adult league with a page of its own and found none. Groups that organize by chat alone wouldn't show up in that search, so treat it as what we could check, not a census.

A ladder won't suit everyone here. Shangri-La sells coaching and a hitting partner, which is the simpler route if that's all you want. Tournament players should watch the ITF calendar. A ladder is for players who want a standing ranking and would rather pick their own opponents.

Questions

Is there a tennis ladder in Cebu?

Yes. Deuce runs the Cebu singles ladder, open-ended and free to join, for players across Cebu City, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. You choose who to challenge and agree the court with your opponent. We found no other Cebu tennis ladder with a page of its own when we checked in October 2026.

How much does a tennis court cost in Cebu?

Magnum Sports Complex in Cebu City lists its court at 800 pesos. On Mactan, Shangri-La charges 700 pesos by day and 1,000 at night. Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu charges 1,200 pesos by day and 1,500 at night for two players. Plantation Bay publishes no rate. Ask each resort how long its rate covers.

Are there public tennis courts in Cebu City?

Not from an official source we could open. The Cebu City government site didn't respond when we checked in October 2026, and Mandaue's site has no tennis page. This page lists a court only when its operator publishes it. All four courts listed here are private.

How do I book a tennis court in Cebu?

At Magnum Sports Complex, book online in blocks of one to three hours. Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu takes reservations at least 24 hours ahead, paid in full. Shangri-La Mactan and Plantation Bay book through the resort. The Cebu Tennis Hub takes phone reservations for its practice machines.

Is there an indoor or clay tennis court in Cebu?

None of the operators we checked says its tennis court is indoor or covered. For clay, Plantation Bay on Mactan lists a clay court among its resort activities, and the ITF's 2026 masters event in Cebu City was played on outdoor clay.

When is the rainy season in Cebu, and what about typhoons?

At the Mactan station, June to October is wettest, and December is nearly as wet. February to May is driest. PAGASA counts about 20 tropical cyclones a year in its area of responsibility, most between July and October. The 30-day play window leaves room to move a match.

Can I play on a Mactan resort court if I'm not a guest?

None of the three resorts says. Shangri-La Mactan, Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu and Plantation Bay publish tennis but not who may book it. Call before you accept a match there, and agree a fallback court, such as Magnum in Cebu City, which anyone can book online.

How is a ladder different from a league?

A league hands you a schedule and your opponents. A ladder gives you a rung: you pick who to challenge and when to play, inside a response window and a play window. Confirmed results earn points, and points order the standings. How it works explains the rest.

What does it cost to join?

Nothing. Deuce Ladder is free for players right now. The court is a separate cost, paid to the venue, and the court-price answer above lists what each one charges. Deuce doesn't sell court time. Browse open ladders on Discover, or see what players get.

How do I start a ladder in Cebu?

Apply as an organizer. You need ten players you can name: a condominium that shares a court, a workplace, a resort's regulars or a hitting group. The short application is reviewed before the ladder opens. The steps are below and on the organizers page.

Start a ladder in Cebu

The Cebu ladder takes singles players from anywhere in the metro. A smaller ladder of your own suits a group with something in common: residents of a condominium with a court, the regulars at Magnum, a company team or players who meet on Mactan.

Applying takes about five minutes: ten questions and a free-text box. A person at Deuce reads each application and writes back only if something needs clarifying. Once it's approved, the ladder is live, and players can join and send challenges the same day.

Ten players you can name is the floor. A dozen or more works better, since a small ladder keeps pairing the same people. Below ten, apply anyway, and we'll tell you if it's too thin.

Running a ladder in a group chat now? There's no import. Invite your players once you're approved, and the unrestricted first challenge sorts out the order.
