Start a club tennis ladder in Ireland
Start an internal club ladder with a small, committed group and clear court access. Do not begin with a national template that may not fit your club. Begin with member eligibility, courts, player level bands, and a person who will enforce the rules fairly.
Test whether the format fits
A ladder works for members who want self-scheduled singles and a continuing standing. A fixed team competition or tournament is better when the club needs regular fixtures or a defined draw. Recruit and seed the first group
Name at least ten players. Ask for recent singles experience, club grade, tournament history, and any recognized rating. Build broad bands rather than a fictional universal scale. A first played match should be able to correct a bad initial position.
Publish the non-negotiables
Cover eligibility, challenge range, response deadline, play window, court booking, scoring, score confirmation, weather, absence, and disputes. Make every rule accessible before the first challenge. The Deuce rules and scoring are product defaults, not Irish governing-body mandates.
Set the committee rhythm
Send one launch message with the rules, ladder order, and contact. Follow up on unanswered challenges. Post results on a regular rhythm. Resolve disputes from written evidence, not from a changing group-chat consensus. Use the ladder simulator before launch, then start a ladder when the club is ready.
